The book consists of papers from a conference in November 2007 with the participation of urban planners, historians and cultural geographers. The purpose of the meeting and this publication was first of all to create awareness of the cartography of urban history as a working method and as an analystic tool and second to start an interdisciplinary dialogue and exchange of experiences between urban historians and users of maps from different disciplines. In the book presentations are given about map projects used in research, registration and documentation in disciplines such as archaeology, cultural history and architecture, and finally the book gives theoretical reflections on cartography and urban history.
