The urban system consists of three elements: The localisation of 1) the population, 2) the jobs and 3) public and private service. At this point there is no difference between the post-industrial town and its predecessors, the mercantile town and the industrial town. The question is whether research today can identify others and new historical structures of these localisation factors.
