The fifth volume of Danish Urban Studies focuses on the militarization of the Danish society from 1536 to 1660. The book is edited by city archivist of Aarhus Søren Bitsch Christensen and contains applications from 16 historians and archaeologists, who tell about the conscription of soldiers, the fortification and outer defence of the towns as a result of the invasions and sieges of the time, and about the inner defence made by the civic militias.

The book is published in Danish, but contains summaries in English.
